Conscience and Conspiracy in Callan (The Civil War in Callan)
On the 6th March, 2023 a talk was held in Edmund Rice Heritage Centre, Westcourt, Callan about the Civil War in Callan, the walk was entitled Conscience and Conspiracy in Callan (The Civil War in Callan) and it was by author and historian Niamh Hassett.
Little has been written or presented about the Civil War in Callan so this talk proved to be both very popular an extremely interesting given the events that took place in Callan, Mullinavat and Thomastown and is sure to be of interest to those in the areas.
National Civil War Commemoration in Dublin May 28th 2023
A number of Callan people attended the national ceremony of remembrance and reflection in memory of all those who died during the Civil War. Neil Somers and Rita O’Neil (née Somers) were featured in this RTE news report about the Commemoration held at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin, where the Taoiseach and Tánaiste jointly laid a wreath.
