Callan has received an allocated of €400,00 for the Bridge Street Callan, One Way System as well as provision of wider active travel facilities in the town.
Funding comes from the National Transport Authority and the investment aims to support pedestrian and cyclist routes, improve safe access to schools, and improve public transport.
This allocation to Callan comes from the €3.1million total allocation given to Kilkenny City & County which is intended for 27 projects throughout the county.
While work on Bridge Street has yet to start recent surveying on the street has taken place to identify underground pipes and cables, the council have also almost completed works on Flaggy Lane which included the narrowing of the road to slow traffic and the addition of footpaths on both sides of the lane in order to improve pedestrian safety.
